My Bunny Doesnt Seem Like Me

Thank you..
yeah well, i'll consider neutering them soon..im gonna have to find a bunny specialist first..uhmm i just wanna know, could they have babies first, just one batch then i'll have them neutered?? is that possible??

It wouldn't be advisable because of the risks to the rabbits, the fact you don't know their history, the lack of vet care, etc.

Its probably far better to keep them apart until they are both spayed/neutered and then rebond them.

I agree that patience is the key. In my signature there is a link to my website, and on it, under Rabbit Info Articles, is an article called 'Bonding with your Bunny' which should give you some hitns and tips :)

Why - do you want them to have babies? The female is awfully young to have a litter. I dont know anything about breeding them though but i have read of problems when giving birth - you'd need a vet on hand really just in case there are complications during the pregnancy or birth, i imagine?

I think they have to be a certain age before they can have the neutering operations. They are quite straight forward procedures though and they can recover pretty quickly. My boy was back to normal in a few hours.

I'm glad you found a good pet shop and vet too. :)

you have a bunny who is 25 days old?!

That would mean less than 4 weeks and it shouldn't of been seperated from its mother yet. Or am i getting the wrong end of the stick here?!

yeah well, i think so, coz that's what the seller told me..when i bought MOcha...they even told me that bunnies are separated from their moms early in the place where they buy the bunnies... I didnt know that before.that bunnies should not be separated until 4 weeks of age..its only nowadays that i came to know about it when i am searching for bunny infos in the internet...

Hi Clarisse,

In my experience, lying on the floor and talking gently and quietly helps a lot in taming buns as with giving treats but if the bunnies are young you should be careful how much fresh food you feed them. Do you give them hay and rabbit food? Young bunnies can easily get diahorrea and die if they have too much fresh stuff and they really need plenty of fresh hay every day for their digestion. I feed about a handful of rabbit food a day with as much fresh hay as they can eat. If you find they soil it give them little bits at a time and top it up throughout the day to minimise wastage. By feeding them more regularly they will learn to associate you with nice stuff like food :D You could also try handfeeding some of their own food and putting less in their bowl so they come and eat from you, helping to bond.

Lying down is good because people look huge to bunnies and it makes you look less scary, coming down to their level. As for neutering, I would recommend you seperate the bunnies for now as your baby will probably be able to get pregnant a lot earlier than her tiny body can cope with being pregnant and having babies. It could be a lot more than her little body can cope with and it could damage her health, stunt her growth or even kill her as unfortunatly, happened to my friends bunny. Especially if she gets pregnant before 6 months of age (some babies can get pregnant at 3months which is way too early).

By seperating the two you will also find that without as much rabbit company they will look more to you and appreciate your affection and get tamer gradually. If you could find a vet Id suggest you at least get your male neutered as this is a less complicated operation and will prevent any babies. Its good to get your female done as well as girls can get cancer if they are not operated on. It is important you find a vet used to operating on rabbits who has performed the op a few times before with good results. If the buns are left together unneutered the female, once pregnat could attack and harm your male bunny. She can also get pregnant instantly after giving birth which will weaken her body and the male could kill the babies.

Sorry for such a long post but I hope it helps. If you ever have any questions feel free to pm me. If I dont know the answerr there are a lot of really experienced and friendly people on here who probably will :D

super cute bunnies, good luck

Bunnies should actually stay with mum up until 8 weeks old. I'm sorry you've been misformed, and hope it doesn't impact on your bunnies and their health and social skills.

well, just in case she got pregnant even before i had her neutered...well, actually my nephew and niece is asking if i could breed the bunnies and give them some of their offsprings..but as you said, its risky, so i think i should take back that idea..and have them neutered once they reach the right age..:D

To Louise G

Thank you for your long post..Its actually helpful... and yeah i give them fresh food, im careful now after the death of my other bunny , Princess..I give them bunny food. a lot of hay (timothy hay imported from US, dried already).. I also give them some fresh grass from the garden..and carrots, cabbage..little by little each day..and lots of water, though they seem to drink very little.. :)
is it really necessary for them to be separated? they are less than 1 month old right now (from what i know from the petshop)..? oh well, just to make sure..and Price testicles hasnt descended yet...do u think i should separate them as early as now? thanks and regards to your bunnies..

Thank you Grin.Though i am still guilty about Princess death.. (my other bunny i got from the other petstore) I guess, its the lack of information in my part that killed her..so right now, im being meticulous about bunny care.. and i am glad to be able to join this forum..i got a lot of helpful informations plus i got to see cute bunny pics..:)

Hi it sounds like you are doing a great job. They are very lucky bunnies. If they are only a month old they should be ok together for about another two months but it is hard to say for sure. I just thought it may be easier to tame them. Its such a shame they came away from their mums so young. That is possibly why mocha is frightened. If you keep doing what your doing and give them loads of love she should come round. The older a scared bunny is, the harder it is to tame and yours are so young, id imagine you should be fine. lots of luck :)

Mocha's Progress and her obsession with cleanliness

Hello everyone..Thank you so much for all the advice.. As of now, Mocha allows me to touch her fur and head..she doesnt jerk away anymore when i approach the cage to touch her.She even come near to the cage door as if saying "come mommy, touch me.." Which really delights me..

I noticed something about her behavior, well, it is not something to be alarmed, i just thought it is not the same as Prince's behavior. I've been noticing this since i bought Mocha. Inside the cage, i have two bowls, one is for the rabbit pellets and the other for the hay.. I noticed that Mocha sits on the bowl full of hay. Its strange (for me) because instead of eating the hay, she sits on it. So I observed her for couple of days, and later on I found out that she sits on the hay and pees or poops on it (i saw urine leaking once when I was observing her) and every time I change the hay, i see a lot of poops there..Does this mean that Mocha is ready for litter training? or is it just bunny instincts to poop and pee on the hay?..well, i used a bird cage as a temporary cage for them, so i covered the floor with carton for the surface to be flat. I put the hay bowl on the area that is not covered with carton.. On my own interpretation, she poops and pees on it because there is an opening under it, i mean, the poops and urine definitely will not come in contact with them, since there is no covering on that area. And to prove my theory, i changed the hay and place the bowl on an area covered with a carton, and behold, this morning i saw the hay bowl, and there is no single poop on it..(im not sure though if there's urine ;) )

So, what could that mean?? Is she ready to be litter trained?..or just bunny instincts? or could it be that Mocha is obsessed with cleanliness??
