The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Male rabbit losing hair

komodo182

New Kit
Hello,
my male rabbit is not neutered and has not seen a female for a long time. He is gaining a lot of white/grey hair that just pulls out with very little force (even if you just pat him). He is not losing any black hair...just white/grey hair. I was wondering since he did have sex, would it be a hormone thing that maybe he is growing extra hair to help with a nest or something?

If not, any ideas?

Thanks

He's probably just moulting. Unless you can see scaley skin or bald patches then it's nothing to worry about. He's probably just losing his summer coat to make way for his winter coat

no bold spots or scales or anything weird, just lots of fur

I'm sure it's just a normal moult. If you could give him a hand by giving him a brush or run a wet hand through. That would stop him swallowing as much which can be harmful by causing a blockage. It doesn't happen often but is something to be aware of when they are moulting.

since moving shadow from outdoors to indoors she is malting quite alot even when i stroke her, but im not worried as its just moulting

How old is your rabbit? Age is a factor. Or your rabbit may be shedding- don't worry it happens to all animals when shedding season comes.
