Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Loud noise sensitivity

Zigzag

Alpha Buck
Hi this is a very random question, but my 12 year old bunny has suddenly become quite sensitive to loud noises- eg when the plate or fork hits the table/ bowl.

He flinched when he heard the sound. It’s quite odd, as I know he feels comfortable, and it’s happened in the last 2 weeks.

Could it be his hearing?

Thanks

Hard to advise really. Would need to see his reactions in context with what he’s doing at the time the loud noise occurs and what his body language is saying.

Is this the Rabbit having hormone implants ? Hormone treatment can affect neurotransmitters in the brain so I guess it’s possible that there might be a change in behaviours and reactions to sound and visual stimuli. That’s just a guess though, not a qualified opinion.

Thanks JJ

Yes Zigzag is the bunny who had the high sex drive, and it’s useful to know how the implant has an affect. I did wonder if it was that as it’s started happening a week or two later. Will ask the RVC as well.

Here he is with the big implant!

Yes it’s huge! I took that before it actually went in, as they didn’t want me to take it when they were doing it understandably. He responded really well, didn’t flinch!
