Looking for some advice on the best way to transport our 2 bunnies on a long car journey. Unfortunately its 14 hours away so we’re worried that it may be stressful and don’t want to lead to GI stasis.
Marshy is a bit of a sensitive boy and even the 5 minute drive to the vet in the pet carrier results in a wet nose. Caramel probably wouldn't even notice what was going on as long as she gets some food.
The current plan involves using our 1.2m cage in the boot of our estate car so it should be flat and smell like home. This will be placed on a duvet to add some extra suspension and block the road noise, if needed the duvet can be used to darken the cage and reduce noise even more by covering 5 sides. At service stops the cage will be opened so they have the full boot to explore which will have their usual towel and litter tray etc.
We’ll have with us loads of food, hay, herbs and veg, treats as well as some motility meds and some critical care just in case.
So my questions:
1 – What else would make the journey more comfortable?
2 – Would practice runs help or just add more stress?
3 – What would be the best travel plan: Get it over with quickly with 1.5 days travel, 1 overnight stay in a hotel OR Take it easy with 3 days travel, 2 nights in a hotel?
