New Kit
Hi everyone!
I'm new here and am posting in regards to a question I have about my bunny Annabelle.
About an hour ago I came home and once I got in the door, Anna was chasing after me for a treat. I tossed some pellets (less than half a handful) on her mat for her to munch on while I got settled in. For reference, I only give Anna pellets as a treat, and I put them inside her "lettuce bowl" (a cloth mat I purchased which you can hide the pellets in under the "leaves" so they have to dig around and search for them.
Anna is crazy for her pellets and pounced on them before I had fully put them down. I went to talk to my partner, and we heard a strange sound, almost as if she had coughed. I went to her immediately and she was inside her house chewing and what appeared to be licking her lips (not cleaning her dewlap). I noticed there were still pellets on her mat, and there was couple of splotches of chewed up wet pellet, along with some brown liquid droplets. I knew she would never leave pellets behind so something was wrong. I observed her for a bit and she began grooming herself and then went back out to eat the remaining pellets.
I checked under her chin and there appeared to be a small amount of pellet mush in her fur on one side, but not unlike other times she eats foods which stain her fur there. I also checked her nose and it was dry and normal.
She was normal afterwards, came for some pets, and ate some hay. Currently she has flopped in her house and is napping. I have attached a picture of her wonderful flop, and also the pellet splotch.
I'm worried that she aspirated some of the pellets into her lungs. I am unsure as to whether or not this requires immediate vet attention. I'm pretty anxious when it comes to her health so I've "cried wolf" quite a few times with the vet and have wracked up substantial vet fees. As a broke student, I would like to avoid a vet visit if not needed, but I also would never deny her care if she needed it.
So I was hoping for a second opinion, and if anyone has ever had experience with this! Is there anything I should look out for in the coming days?
Thanks in advance
