Ill rabbit, feel bad.

Just an update, rang my vets emergency number yesterday, and he saw her. He did not want to put her down as she deserved a chance, he said not many rabbots survive the myxomatosis, but those rare times it does, its generally been those who have very recently had the injection for it. He gave me some anti biotics for her, now its just fingers crossed. Since she only had the vacine 10 days ago, i hope she is one of those rare case.

She is very lively at the moment, and the breathing seems to be better than yesterday with a lot less tipping of the head in the air.

Hi there,

I would go back to your vets and demand s/he also has metacam and fucithulmic eye drops.

Think how much discomfort your other bunny was in- this one will be feeling the same. The metacam is a painkiller and anti-inflammatory.
The fucithulmic is to keep the eyes moist and from drying out when they are shut most of the time.

Is your vet rabbit savvy? Im just abit shocked that he prized the poor buns eyes open causing it agony and hast prescribed metacam or eye drops for the other bun

Is there another vet nearby who you could get a second opinion from, an exotics specialist would be best. I just think that to make keeping this bun alive in the pain he will be suffering worthwhile, you need to throw everything possible at the myxi and keep the bun as comfortable as possible aswell

It is a small animal vet specialist. I saw some rabbit eye drops in the pet shop yesterday, will they do or do they have to be some special ones?

They will have to be fucithulmic eyedrops, and your rabbit needs metacam, I can't stress it enough. I had a mxyi bun and those two things, as well as her oxygen chamber, were the main things in nursing her.

The eye drops in the pet shop won't be any good as real strength medication are available only at vets. Ones you get in pet shops are diluted versions.

Well the 3rd and final rabbit that i bought as a group now has it, woke up this morning to find her eyes all well, you know how the eyes go.

The little black one that i started this thread about is still eating, and is springing about the cage, just her eyes look so sore. Hopefully the fact she is still eating and has so much life in her is a good sign.

Going the Vets in a few mins to pick up more stuff for 3rd bunny.

This 3rd Rabbit (Whisky) and the little black one (Mysty) had bonded very closely before i seperated Mysty away because of the illness.

Now they both have it can i put them back togeather? or do i need to still keep them seperate?

All five of my buns caught myxi a couple of years ago. None had been vaccinated (through my ignorance) and they all survived - although two did die later on and I think it is because their immune system had been compromised.

I still have the other three so it is possible for buns to survive myxi. It took a lot of nursing and I was at the vet daily with one or the other of them. I didn't separate them as I thought it would add to their stress.

Hearing your bun scream in pain must have been horrendous. I am not sure I would ever trust my vet again if that happened!

I hope your buns improve and are eventually restored to happy, bouncing, bundles.

How long untill you started to see improvment Rhianna? Looking at the one thats had the symptoms about a week now her eyes are starting to look more open, although look very sore around the lids, it is better than them being closed like they were a few days ago.

I'm so sorry about your rabbit and hope you can get it to a vet asap :(

Sparrowhawks will take young rabbits but usually it's birds and Kestrels usually take small birds and mammals.

They were all at different stages so it is difficult to remember but I know it went on for a very long time and got worst before it got better. They did seem to become brighter before the outward signs - the lumps they get - disappeared. It was an incredibly stressful time - made much worst by my guilt at not having had them vaccinated.

I am paranoid about getting my current seven done on time now.

My vet was very surprised mine all pulled through - from what I have read I think some vets recommend PTS as a matter of course. I am glad I persevered.
