  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help needed with my boy

Hi thanks for letting me join,I've had my baby conti since 5th may and on the 13th may he started limping on his back right leg,he could still put weight on it etc, vets checked him over couldn't feel any obvious breaks or swellings,so put him on metacam,he has stopped limping but when sat still his back end falls to one side, wondering if possible e cuniculi? Ive sent a video to vets and awaiting a reply, how do i add a video on here to show u guys

Hello, I am sorry to hear about your Rabbit's problems.

I upload videos to Youtube then post the link on here. Can you try that ?

Contis are prone to genetic hip dysplasia, so as well as EC hip dysplasia could be another possibility

Hi all I'm going to try upload videos as soon as i can,he keeps spinning round on his bottom alot now and has gone down hill since my last post, his back end falls to the right always and his right back leg goes underneath him,he was improving this morning 😥

From a video it's impossible to say for certain, but I'd put money on it being a hip problem rather than EC. Did you say the problem occurred after he had a procedure under GA ? If so was he placed on his back whilst the procedure was carried out ?

That said, EC can flare up at times of physiological stress such as surgical procedures, so it may be EC related.

Just a tip about him being on a carpet like rug, this will be rather abrasive and could eventually mean his hocks become bald and sore (Pododermatitis) as he is unable to hop properly. So I'd cover the rug with a cotton sheet, firmly fixed so it does not slip about. Or try him on an old duvet. A low TOG one as the thick ones may be tricky for him to get about on.
