Help bonding

LisaW

New Kit
Hi, does anyone know of anyone that can help with bonding my 2 rabbits in the south west area? Or do you know of any place i can take my rabbits? Im also willing to travel as i so desperately want them to get on and be little companions for each other. They are both fairly young and a similiar age. Ones male and ones female and the male has been neutered. Thanks in advance

Hi Lisa

To have the best chance of success the female will also need to be neutered - this also significantly reduces the risk of uterine cancer :thumb:

hi catherine thanks for responding. I was afraid of that because we nearly lost our male rabbit when we had him spayed. He stopped eating and had to stay at the vets for several days so was hoping we wouldnt really have to go down that route if it could be helped. Our female rabbit is quite shy and our male rabbit is like a bull at a gate but so so friendly. We tried them together a few times and he just kept chasing her and she kept hiding. They are both dwarf half lion heads.

Where are you located? Stasis can happen after an operation however good rabbit vets should give gut stimulants and good pain relief afterwards to try and prevent it happening. Spaying has it's risks as with any operation however it is only a small % that have complications. Unfortunately the risk of not spaying a female is greater than the risk of spaying as 80% of unspayed does get uterine cancer which can be fatal unless it gets caught and an emergency spay is performed (and even then the cancer can come back).

Im in bristol. Thinking we should have maybe just got our second rabbit from a rescue centre or something now as it looks like they help with the bonding process. Instead we concentrated more on finding a rabbit, similiar age and breed and went all the way to wales to go and get her

Oh ok not immediately aware of any rabbit specialists your way but might be worth starting a thread 'Rabbit savvy vet wanted in Bristol' as I think we have a few local members :thumb:

It is a lot easier to get a bunny from rescue that's for sure and most help with the bonding process, plus already neutered and vaccinated  but next time ;)
