Armoo I understand how you feel, I lost my girl a couple of days ago and have blamed myself too for not coming home sooner or acting faster, I feel terrible beyond belief, my boy left behind has also been like a shadow, she used to groom and fuss him every minute of the day 
I am visiting freshfields liverpool within the next couple of weeks as I can't be leaving him alone at home when I'm at work etc, they do the bonding on site for around 5 days to make sure you've chosen the perfect companion before taking them home, it might help you both to heal *hugs* so so sorry for your loss xxx
