  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hair Cutting

I have recently bonded Misty with a male who belonged to a friend. I have never had a bunny with long hair before. What is the best way to deal with his long fur? I am trying to keep the fur around his eyes short but am wondering whether I should trim his body fur right down - especially as the Warner weather is on the way (hopefully).

When you say 'long hair' exactly how long ? An Angora coat ? A Cashmere Coat ?

Daily grooming will be necessary but it is not always necessary for the Rabbit to be fully clipped. And should this be necessary unless you are very experienced and the Bunny is not stressy when handled it is safer to get a Vet/VN to do the job. Although in the current situation re Covid 19 this is unlikely to be an option unless it were for acute welfare needs

Im lucky that my bunny is really calm and i can happily snip away with siccors. She is a french lop so her fur isnt very long but it easily would get matted as she has head tilt and cannot clean properly so i usually snip around the bum area and sometimes around the bib
