Oh, poor Flopsy. I'm so sorry. Since she's with a rabbit specialist now, it sounds like she's in the best of hands, so I hope they can get her back to feeling better. I'll be sending her lots of get-better vibes.
Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
Thanks all. Flopsy has been admitted overnight to the small animals hospital
She’s very constipated. She’s going to get a scan. I will know more tomorrow x
Hi all,
Flopsy is impacted but doesn’t have a blockage. Unfortunately she has a kidney infection
She’s on antibiotics and staying in the hospital for now
Hi Silflay,
I’m sorry I didn’t see your message earlier. I was feeling so down that I didn’t even check the forum.
I’m so sorry you lost your bunny
You were right Flopsy does have an infection and is on IV fluids and on antibiotics xx
I'm really pleased Flopsy is responding well to the treatment and I hope she is able to come home soon.
I suspect that the pain relief they're giving her is likely to be an opiate such as vetergesic. It can make some bunnies very dopey, so Flopsy may seem very tired and lethargic until it's fully out of her system.
I just thought I'd give you a heads up as a lot of vets don't warn owners about it and it can cause a lot of panic. I remember once crying on the bus on the way home from visiting my sick bun at the hospital as she had been so unresponsive that I was convinced she was dying. I didn't find out until much later that it was the vetergesic that had caused her to be like that.
