  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

eyelid lump

My rabbit Rosie has a little lump on her upper eyelid. It doesn't seem to bother her, her eyes are bright and normal I was just wondering what it could be?

Its small and white, not at all yellow or red. It looks as though she has had a nick cut out of her eye lid then has this small white lump on one side. Heres a photo for a better idea, not very pleasant though as I'm pulling her eyelid back slightly, sorry about that! It looks like I'm holding her harsher than I really am!

Looks like she has caught the conjunctiva (soft inner tissue of eyelid) with a nail when scratching herself. Your Vet would probably lance the little 'spot' as it probably contains thick cheesy pus. Then a course of antibiotic eye drops/ointment would probably be prescribed.

Thanks :) So you think it would get worse if I just left it? I'd rather not irritate something thats not irritating her in the first place but I wouldn't want it to get worse!

It looks like the spot I get when if I burn my eyelid with my eyelash curlers (don't ask  ), but I suspect that's not it in this case...

Sorry, that wasn't at all helpful, was it!

Only problem with just leaving it would be if it got bigger and started to rub on her eyeball. Your Vet will be able to advise the best course of action.
