  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Duchess off food, please give an opinion

Hiya

Duchess is 4.5yrs, never been ill, is in beautiful condition but 24/36 hours gone off food which is not like her, shes normally up on the cage asking for more.

Shes been in her litter tray more often, sits in it and has woken us up in the night grabbing her drinking bottle? So I took her to the vet with the thought of Urinary infection and now shes on baytril and metacam. I have given her dandelions and fresh food which shes eaten and one of those crunchy treats that you hang on the cage which she has occasionally but I thought she normally goes mental for those.

Shes eaten greens and hay which is unlimited but has not touched her pellets much?

Now whatever the problem , theres always a worry of GI Stasis if you dont keep the gut going? I would hand feed critical care altho she hates it and disolve pellets if need be.

What do you think though as I do not want to do this unless absolutely necessary?

Shes weeing and pooing, the poo looks a bit sticky and is not round like? more oblong stuck together?

I have 30 yrs experience with rabbits but havent had many poorly ones..

Shes happy and bright, maybe a bit more relaxed

Please give me your opinions, I am greateful for any..

Thanks

Sweety
