  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dental/gut stasis

I'm sorry your bun isn't well. It's quite a confusing list of symptoms and I don't have enough experience to try to work out what it might be, but I hope the vet can sort him out.

Sorry to hear about ur poor bun. My rosie had a dental2 and half weeks ago and discovered and absess. Next day she stopped eatting and in alot of pain. Basically spent 9 days in vets for intensive treatment for a blockage. The vet I used gave rosie cisapride which he said was so much better than metacolpramid. He said using it he hasnt had to operate on a bun for a blockage in 6 years. She is still on it at the minute but slowly reducing the amount now. U could ask ur vet about it. Also they syringe fed rosie 10ml critical care 4 times a day as they needed food in her system to push the blockage along so maybe ur bun isnt getting enough food to push things along?? Obviously this very much depends on the type of blockage and syringe feeding can be dangerous with blockages too. Someone else with more knowledge here could advise. In my experience with rosie it took a pain med called vetergesic that was injected twice a day when she was admitted to ease her pain as the metacam just wasnt strong enough so u could check which pain meds ur bun is getting. Jacks Jane helped me soo much with rosie and her advice saved her life. Hope ur bun starts to feel better.
