  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dash Stasis-He is gone

Thank you ru friends.
He continues to pass fecal material that is unformed.
He is not eating enough and it is taking longer to give critical care food.
He did enjoy being held a lot.
I wish I had a crystal ball to know the right answers.

What is he like within himself, is he as active as usual and interested in his surroundings. When he has not been held for a while does he feel cold to touch-ie is he maintaining his body temperature ?

He is not dashing around which is how he got his name. This afternoon he came to me to get some greens and he continued to do it this evening too. I know it is not enough to sustain him long term, yet he showed me he is still not ready to give up. He also nibbled a very small amount of hay. His eyes are brighter too, though that may be due to his no having any meds for over 24 hours. He is still getting fluids and critical care; plus Medicam if necessary.
Dash is so small it does not take much for him to lose body heat. I only gave him the heat pad after giving room temp fluids.
Dash and I are still trying.

Pleased to hear that Dash is still fighting, sending a million vibes for him to pull through this episode xx hugs for you too, it's exhausting physically and emotionally looking after a sick bun, you are doing a great job xx

Thank you friends.
Right after I posted the update, I picked up Dash to give him some syringe feed and fluids again, and he was dehydrated and he felt worse. It was only 2 hours from the time he was eating his greens and looking brighter. He gets plenty of fluids sub Q , drinks more on his own, gets additional fluids in greens (when he eats them), and then he pees so much he dehydrates and feels poorly. When his urine was tested earlier in the year, it was normal. Something must have changed.

Bless him, it sounds as though he may be in renal failure now  He has fought so hard and so long and without all of your great care he would not have survived his chronic gut condition for so long. I do hope that I am wrong and that this is not 'the end'. Sending you many hugs T xx

Thinking of you and Dash and hoping that he has rallied. Many vibes coming your way for him ((((((((((((((Healing vibes)))))))))))))) and hugs for you. ((((((((((((((Huge hugs)))))))))))))) xxxxxxx

It meani a lot to have the support of our ru friends.
He has such a strong spirit in his tiny body. 1
This afternoon he ate some greens and was nibbling hay. He then came for more dandelion greens.
