  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cyst

I have an 11 month old female Dutch rescue who has got a large cyst on her shoulder. We’ve had her for less than a month and she has had it for at least that amount of time. She’s been to the vets twice who confirmed that there is only clear liquid in it. She was given loxicom. It’s not having an impact on her at all. It’s gone down somewhat but it’s still noticeable. The vet said that it may not reduce completely.

Has anyone had rabbits with similar?

Did the Vet take a fine needle aspiration from the 'cyst' to look and have a look at the cells contained in the aspirate under a microscope ? Can you post a photo of the 'cyst' ?

Yes he did but I dont know if he looked at cells. We had to wait in car park. How do I post a pic?

You can see the lump on her shoulder.

Yes, I was able to see the image by copying and pasting it into Google.

Could you ask the Vet if he viewed the aspirate under a microscope. It can be possible to determine what sort of 'lump' it may be by the microscopic appearance of the cells within it. I am wondering if it could be an Elbow Hygroma. This explains the condition in dogs, never seen it in a Rabbit though

Personally I would want the Vet to investigate things a bit more if he has not done so x

The vet said not to worry about it. I will ask the question though. It’s not bothering her at all.
