Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Changing colour!

Young Bun
I rehomed a rabbit about 8 weeks ago and he is now moulting. He was pure black but there is now grey coming through. I have never had a rabbit change colour and wondered if anyone else had. Cheers

 Yep, don't worry, perfectly normal! In your case it looks as if the hair shaft is grey so when the bun isn't moulting all you see is the black tips, but if you were to push some of the fur back the other way you'd probably find that it's lighter nearer the skin. Because some of the fur is missing during the moult, you're just seeing the grey shaft that is normally covered :)

Buns fur can also change colour during the year, especially if they are sunbathers and the sun bleaches their fur just like it does our hair! So that can show as a noticeable change of colour during the next moult :)

Aw, thanks for that, was worried he was going grey like me! Must admit his new shade suits him, but he is looking a bit tatty.:) Its only his second time outside, poor love was kept in a small indoor cage with a guinea pig. just got him a lovely white female and will be starting the dreaded bond in a couple of weeks :?

Yes, my sooty fawn dwarf lop used to be really light coloured in the summer and darker with more sootyness to her in the winter.

Yes, Joejoe is jet black in the winter but goes a bit ginger (or strawberry blonde as he prefers to call it ) in the summer, at the moment he is sporting a rather interesting zig-zag pattern!

Im glad I saw this thread...I was going to post one just like it!

Rolo is changing colour too. His black bits are going a bluey grey and his peachy bits are going creamy (harlequin bun) Very odd:lol:
