Can anyone recommend a vets in Watford area please? I have just moved to the area. I have two rabbits (which are in boarding at the moment), and a guinea pig who is staying at my mums, who is not eating or coming out. So I need to find a good vets.

Can anyone help please?

Hi  I'm in Abbots Langley just outside of Watford.

I use Guy Carter at Medivet in St Albans Road Watford - he is well known for having a special interest in Rabbits and I find their vaccination prices preferable to anywhere else local. I have used him when Fizz had a little gut stassis and was very happy - they are open 24 hours for emergency.

I have used Park Vets Cassiobury Drive and their Clinic in Leavesden for many, many years. They are a large practice, Mel (German lady, can't think of surname) is pretty good with the buns - she neutered both of mine, Mr Star I believe is marked as an exotic specialist although I feel some of his rabbit ideas are a bit out dated, they have a lovely young man called James who looked after Maisy excellently when she was poorly. Wander Faulkes (who works at the clinic in the main - where there are no hospital facilities) is pretty good too - I have found her excellent with our hamsters and she is familiar with GP's too I understand - she always writes things down for me to read up on later! I always find them very friendly, understanding and helpful and because they are a large practice it is usually easy to get an apt or to call and say you are bringing in a poorly pet right away. The only thing I don't like here is that they don't handle any out of hours themselves anymore.

Both have websites so why not have a look and see what you think.

If you are happy to travel a bit further, I understand Nine Lives in Redbourn are excellent with rabbits also.

Ditto to the above. Guy Carter at Medivet is an outstanding bunny vet and is well known in bunny circles. He's looked after many of my buns in the past.

Thank you so much, it's so nice to have recommendations. I actually live in Kings Langley (Hunton Bridge) so alot nearer to Abbots Langley than to Watford.

I'm not sure if my guinea pig will be coming home, she may stay at my mum's (my mum has a vet near her), but at least I know there is someone near here if I go and get her, if she doesn't perk up.

Thank you both so much xx

I also use medivet - they have been great and seem to be cheaper than a lot of places (not that that is my main concern though!)

Guy Carter at Medivet. As above, he's good and all the staff are friendly.

It's not too bad a drive from Kings Langley to Medivet, they are in St Albans road (if you're new to the area then I can tell you a few routes and where to avoid).
The parking is round the back which means a short drive round the block!

Up Regent Street, right at the end (two way street) and right again into Cecil Street.

I didn't realise that Parks had anyone who deals in rabbits, when I phoned they told me all their vets deal with small animals. (again, not the first concern, but appear to be more expensive than Medivet, vacinations £28 compared to £16.99).

Thank you! I managed to get lost (wrong way down the A41 yesterday!) so I think I will have to drive around and get used to the area!

thanks everyone x

I second or is it third that....Guy Carter medivet Watford. Hes RWA recommended & was great when my rosie had to have her eye out. Her husbun was allowed to accompany her when she had her op & they didnt charge me anything for his overnight stay

As I said I have been with Park Vets for many years (25 + they used to be Johnson and Daniels in the old days), they are good but I would just want to see someone I know is good with that particular animal, I just ask who is on that day and say who I'd like to see.

When I've needed an apt in a hurry Medivet were not so quick to offer an apt (I got one 'cos I said it couldn't wait) but Park usually ask how soon can you get here and tell you to come then.

If you are in Hunton Bridge then the Park Clinic based at Leavesden (where they deal with routine apt's, vacc etc - they can dispense meds but don't have hospital facilities, these are at the main vets in Cassiobury Drive) are very near. Mr Star and Wanda Faulkes are often on duty at the clinic.
