  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A quick Bear update for anyone who is interested

HoneyBear

Mama Doe
He's still not right but getting there slowly :(
He's having metacam, emeprid and ranitidine daily still and eating small amounts of most things apart from pellets. He's eating the pro fibre pellets which I thought can't be bad to help his digestion.
We have small poos and wees but he's definitely taking longer to recover than ever before.
He's quite a stressy boy I'm trying to balance medicating and observing him with leaving him alone to get better.
I'm positive it's to do with their moult, there both not themselves, Bear has a funny skirt and Alice just looks like she has been dragged though a hedge backwards, maybe I need to groom them more than once a day but it's hard when there hiding under a bed from you!

I empathize...mine used to be okay with grooming but as they've gotten older (and more arthritic) it's turned into a big deal. Somedays I wish I could just body shave them!
More vibes for Bear and some for Alice too! xxxx

Best wishes, I know what it is. Mine goes into a full stasis with each moult. The first time it took me a month and a half to get them back to normal, the second time (just a few weeks ago), 23 days.
So don't give up. ;)

Aww well nipping your toe shows Bear was hungry :) it could be down to the moulting, I've found this year mine seem to have had two moults. I try to keep Jazz, who also has quite a skirt on him, cropped short so he can't ingest too much. Hope Bear is feeling better soon, vibes for him & Alice x

I've been watching out for an update. That all sounds positive, Beau has taken a lot longer to get better this time too, I'm sure the weather isn't helping. Sending noserubs for Bear xx
