  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Behaviour change since spaying...

Mimi was spayed on July 10, and since then, she's been biting, digging, scratching, you name it! I bought this bitter apple spray from the vet to deter her from biting the furniture but it doesn't. Her cage is a constant mess now w/ all the scratching, and she won't urinate on the shavings anymore, she cleans out that part and goes on the plastic! She had towels in there right after she was spayed and she was biting & scratching them then shoving them over to sit on the plastic. She wasn't like this before. Will this behaviour stop? She's 6 months old, for what it's worth.

It may be the hot weather. My rabbits shove all the bedding out the way and lay on the bare floor when it's hot. I'd suggest leaving the floor bare and poping a litter tray in the corner with some paper base cat litter in.

You might also find a cardboard box she can chew on and a box/plastic storage tun filled with stuff she can dig in would help.
