  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A friend of mine has just rehomed a couple of rabbits, two girls. They seem very healthy and are very friendly. She was told they had been given their injections but the previous owner could not remember when. If she takes them to the vets for an injection and it was less than six months/a year ago, would this be a problem for the rabbit. I have never been asked this before and couldnt give her an answer.

I don't know about VHD, but I made a blunder myself ( despite having vac cards for them all).  Took Alfie for a Myxi in around March, then Noah was due in April but got poorly, so I took Alfie again, as he was simply in the next hutch ( I take them down in pairs monthly to spread the cost)! I was chatting to the vet as usual while she jabbed away,  it was only when she went to update the computer and fill in his card, she said oops! I panicked, but she assured me it wouldn't be a problem and I didn't see any change in him at all! :D

ok thanks, i will let her know, i think she wants to get them done just to be on the safe side, i did tell her if she had any worries, just speak to the vet
