  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Scabs

What to do when your rabbit get scabs?

One of my rabbits got scabs on his eye and then it extended to the mouth, nose, ears and feet. Now he's OK and almost fully recovered thanks to some herb oil I put on to it. But now the two other rabbits got these scabs too. Why is it? What can I do aside from putting oil on them? Does someone know what to do?
(NOTE:If you need some picture to see exactly what kind of scabs I mean I can post some here too.)

Did the scabbed areas start off as small lumps, and how long did it take to clear up?? It could be some sort of pox virus, esp as it has spread to the others. I'd take them to the vet just to get a diagnosis. Have they been vaccinated against myxi? Some photos would be nice.

I think you need to take your bunnies to the vet for a diagnosis. I note you are living in Spain - have they been vaccinated?

recovering

Fortunately they are recovering well these last days. When I posted the message I was quite worried but now they look so much better. I kept putting them this herb oil and it's working. I didn't vaccinate them as I don't know if the vet in the village accepts rabbits. I shall ask next time I go there with my dog.

oil

Herb oil as oil made with medicinal plants/herbs.
I used "Rosa Mosqueta" oil and the scabs are disappearing :D
