  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worming (again!)

Morning everyone

I took my two to the vets last night for their myxi jabs and I thought whilst I was there I'd see if she knew much about worming since there have been various debates on here!

A lot of what she said did go over my head a bit  but she had obviously researched the topic and knew her stuff and from what I understood and can remember, pancur is not necessary for worming rabbits, its been researched and found to help prevent ear infections (she used another name) which can cause head tilts etc...!?

I talked about our discussions on here and that some of us were concerned about over treating our rabbits and she totally understood! She is not promoting/pushing it at her surgery but has treated a few rabbits where a course of treatment for ear infections has really helped!

Does she mean EC? That causes head tilt but EC is not related to ear infections which also cause head tilt and to all my knowledge needs antibiotic treatment not panacur.

I worm to prevent EC only.....Actual worms in rabbits is very uncommon and easily treated unlike E. Cuniculi.
