  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Success rate of spaying- survival?

What is the success rate for spaying please?

(I know it will differ from vet to vet, but just the general one.)

I'd say around 97% 'cos theres always going to be those that aren't strong enough or have unknown complications

Its like anything, theres always going to be a risk, but I'd say the risks of the big 'C' is worse than the op IMHO

Sorry mandy, I did think your question sounded a bit strange lol

Moonshine is 9 months and she was spayed at 6 months, Flopsy is 5 months and Smudge is 3 and a half months. I'll be getting them both done at 6 months too.

ARC have lost a couple in the past 5 years, considering the amount we have got done in that period of time the percentage would be far less than 1% as previously stated this risk is far less than the risk of developing cancer.

Amanda was one of my foster rabbits who died whilst under anaesthetic, she was a large french lop who was found to have minute lungs on pm. The others were also found on pm to have either lung or heart problems.
