Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

recovery from dental work

One of my bunnies, nutmeg, had her teeth rasped on Tuesday, now shes back at home fine, back to normal.

The Vet has given us some Bio Lapis for her, but what does it actually do.

She really does not want to drink the solution.

She's eating her hay and pellets and drinking water as normal, and her droppings look regular and she is going to the loo as normal.

Should I get a syringe and force her to take the Bio Lapis or shall I just keep an eye on her just in case.

Thanks

Bec

If she is eating and pooping normally then I wouldn't bother giving her the Bio Lapis, it is a probiotic that helps the guts but she sounds as if she is doing alright on her own, no point stressing her out.

Well, my bunny also had some teeth done 2 weeks ago, at the time it's fine, but turns out there is a grade 1 (low) Gingivitis.

So is Bio Lapis to prevent infection? I'm not versed in Bio Lapis.

Bio lapis is a probiotic.
When Bobby had his teeth done, I mushed up some pellets for him and cut everything into small bits and he looked at me like I was daft and started eating hay!
If Nutmeg is behaving normally, leave her to it!

I have never been given bio lapis for the buns after dental rasping. Sounds to me like administering it would cause more stress than good. I'd just leave her to it and keen an eye on her. b-m

I've administered it by letting it soak into a little piece of apple before now - not the slightest bit stressful for the bun! Heather had her molars done a couple of weeks ago and recovered really well so I never gave anything like that.
