  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaccinations

Hi everyone. :D A friend of my sisters has asked me if I can pet sit her bunny for 2 weeks but I'm not sure whether to say yes or not because he isn't vaccinated. My two rabbits are but I'm worried just incase he would carry a risk because he isn't vaccinated. He'd be under quarenene(sp?) so I would wash my hands between handling him and my bunnies and keep their toys, food etc seperate.Would he be ok staying or do you think it's a bit risky? :?

Vaccinated rabbits can catch myxy - although their chances of survival are dramatically increased.

There is a very very low chance of anything being spread but it wouldn't certainly be less with a vaccinated rabbit.

Will she not vaccinate in exchange for the sitting service - no god boarding facility will take them unvaccinated either.

She's willing to have him vaccinated but she's going on holiday on Sunday so she wouldn't be able to have both vaccinations in time because of the two week gap. :? I know I should probably say no just to be on the safe side but I'd feel so bad!

Get mxyi done first then this week and offer to take him in for his VHD if he is still with you when it is due (she should be able to pay in advance with the vet).

It is unlikely he could pass anything to yours if they are up to date and he appears to be in perfect health but obviously he is at risk (make sure you have sorted out vet arrangements if he became ill while she was away).
