Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nails - How long??

Shellar

Hi Guys

How do you know when your rabbits nails are too long and need clipping??

My 2 have been on the grass for the past 2 months and don't go on any hard surfaces to wear them down.

I couldn't clip them myself, what it I did it wrong, to short......

Any advice would be great.

Thanks :D

HI

im not sure how long they should be, but im a wimp i get the vet to do it because i know if you cut them to short they can bleed, and she is a wriggler!

I cut simba's white nails to just above the quick (blood vessel) which u can see very clearly. Nala's are dark so much harder to see but i just clip a little bit off to keep them short. You could maybe see if any local rescues or members on here could show u how to do it.. its really not hard once you know how

Thanks everyone.

I might have to contact Jill. Will be seeing her in a couple of weeks when my mum gets a girlfriend for Bertie!!!

I don't really feel confident enough to do it myself. All your advice has been great.
