THAT pet shop AGAIN...

Inimical Me

Wise Old Thumper
Popped into Stockport P@H on Wednesday for some hay for the buns, and obviously I had to torture myself by taking a peek in the rabbit enclosure  .

There were only two rabbits. Two little grey Dutch buns. And they were TINY  . I'm no expert on the age of baby rabbits, but they were so shockingly small, I'd estimate about a month old  . The only baby rabbit I've ever seen (since birth) is my Fidget, and she's really small fully grown, and at 6 weeks she was quite a bit bigger than these rabbits  . I wish I'd had my phone so I could have taken a picture! They were so small you could have easily and securely held one in each hand. And I dunno how long they have to be quarantined in the back of P@H for, and then there's transportation time, god knows how tiny they were when they were dragged away from mummy-bun  . I was SO annoyed :x and even more annoyed that I then had to give the company my money! Grrr!

I was so upset by how tiny they were I could hardly speak. There was only one member of staff around and she was younger than me, so taking my anger out on her probably wouldn't have helped. Argh. So annoyed.

I feel an angry letter coming on.

Rant over...

Aww, that's so sad. You could have asked the girl to get the manager and vented a bit at him/her :x

Is it possible for you to go back, armed with phone camera, take a pic and ask to speak to the Manager? Then write the letter to Head Office as Kate has discussed in her conversation with the Chief Executive.

Things will not change if we don't take action so please go back. After Kates initiative, we have the power, lets use it. (See her topic in Rabbit chat if you've missed it) :D link added

I thought that Dutch bunnies were supposed to be fairly small bunnies (in comparison to dwarf lops and the like) ?

Well, all the ones i've seen have been pretty small anyhow.

Most babies are roughly the same size when they're a month old unless they're giants so it wouldn't really make much difference what breed they were. That's really sad!

I cant say ive seen that many baby rabbits to know what the correct size of a 10week old baby is.. however when i got simba he could fit in the palm of my hand. All the babies being sold were of similar size. I got him from a breeder at the hampshire country show where it is run by the BRC who have strict regulations on age and i was told he was 10wks old, so these babies may not be that young

My babies are 7 and a half weeks lionhead/mini lops and they could sit in my hand with some trouble and they're quite small. But I've definately seen babies too young to be sold in there.

I can't go back because my friend who drives me there has taken his car home (to Birmingham).

I know Dutches are a small breed, but these were seriously tiny. At least half the size of the minilops they usually have on sale and smaller than baby Nethies I've seen them selling. Like I said, there were two, one was hidden in the little house thing with a few (also small) guinea pigs, I think that one was possibly a bit bigger, I couldn't really see all that well, they were presumably litter mates though, exactly the same colouring. I was shocked mainly because while I disgaree with them selling animals full stop, the rabbits in Stockport's P@H usually look old enough, well cared for and really relaxed. But this rabbit was smaller than the Netherland Dwarves I've seen them selling. I wish I had spoken to the manager now, it's been preying on my mind ever since  . Even my friends were shocked at how small it was and the "babyish" look.

Becki, fantastic, hope you can get a pic. There was only 2 rabbits on the shop floor though so dunno the chances of it still being there.

Just to warn you, don't let any of the staff see you take a piccy, as you're not allowed and could be kicked out.

We've got some small buns in (too small for my liking :( but not small enough to sit in your hand! Although these are medium sized buns)

How about if you told a little white lie and asked if you could take a photo to convince your mum/dad/nan/bf/etc. to let you have a bunny? When I worked at Notcutts we had a few people take photos of bunnies they'd enquired after/reserved to show family at home/have a reminder.

You would only have to say you were taking the photo to show someone at home if you got caught :D Just take it very matter of factly and carry on looking around.

On holiay in Las Vagas I kept getting stopped by security guards for filming inside the casinos, I think they thought I was planning an Oceans 11 or something  I filmed in a lot of the casinos and only stopped if I was asked/caught. Have fab holiday footage :D

I didnt manage to get there this weekend, My little sister decided she urgently needed new dancing shoes  . I know about the camera phones, i just pretend im txting  xx

Tiny rabbits should be left away from the shop floor and with it's mummy
:( I just refuse to shop there nowadays, there's nothing else you can say or do, unless you're willing to take the law into your own hands

ok so im not going to make myself very popular, but i work for P@H and i can tell you that the rabbits are 10-12 weeks whent hey get to us and are then in isolation or at least a week - 2 weeks. I can asure you that they are NO younger.

I know from the outside its easy to judge but all the animals are cared for, the senior staff are qualified and there are exams that EVERY member of staff takes throughout therie time with pets at home.

We have our own vets and take pride in caring for the animals.

im sure ive just made myself very unpopular on my first visit as well.......

There are few members on here that work and used to work for PAH.

I know in your store they may not be seling underage tiny animals but it some store they do.

There are a few half decent stores around and a few decent staff but unfortunately there aren't many
