Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Thank you all so much for your replies on my last thread.

I am so scared of FS I need all the advice I can get. No more signs of the horrible things since that 1 on Sat as I was cleaning her out

C poos she has every other day, I feed her p at h museli for rabbits, 2 times a day onehandful. Give her veg as well as, or instead of one of the portions - usually brocilli (sp)

Are the nuggets better, as they are all in one? I have decided dried food just one time a day from now on after reading the other posts. It's all still a learning curve for me, she always has hay available but seems to like to eat shredded paper - when i see her doing this i stop her. Could that cause c poos? :?

Is another brand of food better? Sounds awful when you go on holiday, puts you off going, it sounds heartbreaking and Im so sorry it happend to you. I will do all you recommend

I'm a worrier anyway! My mom says goodness knows what I will be like if I ever have a baby!!

thank you in advance for your advice

Emma

Hi Emma - yes I'd definitely suggest changing food! To be honest the PAH nuggets, whilst better than the muesli, are still quite oily and a lot of people find that they don't necessarily solve the problem of excess caecatrophs (I believe that PAH nuggets are made by Burgess and are the same or extremely similar to burgess excel)

Science Selective or Allen & Page pellets are much better (both over 5% higher in fibre than the PAH/excel nuggets. Many people say that changing to one of these two pretty much solves the excess caecatrophs problem. A&P are very high in fibre but only come in 10kg bags and are not always easy to come across - Science selective is a lot easier to find, although I must admit I haven't seen it in PAH. You can usually get it in most pet shops or vets, or they can often order it in for you.

Hope that helps!

thanks santa,

I'm sure I will find some from somewhere, thats what the net is for !

Looking forward to not seeing any c poos in her hutch!

Will let you know how it goes

Emma

I swopped all mine over gradually from Excell to Science Selective which they took to really well. I had tried them on Allen and Page but they wouldn't touch it.

I get my Science Selective from Focus which is a large DIY chain it is £2.49 a bag.

Poppy - I notice you are in Rugby - Tracy who runs the Rabbit & Guinea Pig Rescue in Rugby (posts on here as RNGPWelfare) uses Allen & Page pellets and sells it - may be worth having a chat with her.
