  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A Sad ending for the rescue rabbit

Im sure you will all be sorry to hear that when I woke up this morning, Oscar had died during the night. Im quite sure from the description the woman gave me thta it was the disease HDCV (or something like that...I dont remember exactly what letters they were).

I assumed that when he lived over two weeks after I bought him that he was ok, but it turn out he is only just 3 months now , as this is the usual time for rabbits with this disease to die.

He was doing great and was very trusting. BUt its quite upsetting even after just 2 weeks to see him (Ive decided its a him sinse there isnt any real reason to make sure now) pass away. But for the last two weeks I think he has been very happy.

If I ever decide to get a new rabbit I will message you again. Thanks especially to Karla for hosting the oscar pics. And everybody else for their help.

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news.

Binky free Oscar, rest in peace.

Its a bit like saying Rest in Peace... Binkying is what happy bunnies do.. so instead of saying rest in peace we say 'binky free' kind of means they are now free from any pain/illness and can binky as much as they want to over Rainbow Bridge.. a happy place for bunnies to pass over to

I had grown quite attatched to him even though I'd never met him... At least he was happy and safe for the last part of his short life!
