  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Has anybody heard of a probiotic that you can add to a rabbits water about 3 days before their operation?
It is supposed to line the gut and encourage them to begin eating soon after an operation.
My vet nurse told me about it but says that vets dont readily tell people about it! I cant remember the name of it and I cant get hold hold of her now to ask her.
Cuba is in for her spay on Friday this week and I was just wondering if anybody has heard of it/used it?
Gosh isn't is nerve wrecking when they are due an operation!!! Worse than kids I imagine

You can also get Avipro (same thing) and I'm pretty sure I saw probiotics in Pets at Home too.
Hope everything goes well. It is nerve-wracking, isn' it?!

ooh..anyone know why my pic has gone so tiny?
Thanks for the info guys, think i will get some today!

Yeah, Bio-Lapis is what my vet gives me before any of my buns go in for surgery. To be given 3 days before, and 3 days after :)

iv started giving the bio lapis but 2 probs, 1. it says to give 50ml of water with one sachet in, and that little bit of water leaks out of the bottle, 2. Im not sure she's keen, i put some in a bowl because of the bottle problem and she launched at accross the cage!!
Any ideas?

They do a pellet form (it is same size as supa excel but lighter in colour) too which you just sprinkle on their regular dry complete or give alone before you give them their dinner!

Its great, Ive been using it for about 4 years.

Its on the website link I think, if not any vets can order it in. Protexin Profibre pellets.
