Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hiya!! Is your vet an Exotics Acredited one....?? :? (which is how buns are classified in Veterinary Medicine). It is just that diabetes in rabbits is VERY rare and difficult to diagnose. For example it cannot be diagnosed on the basis of a very high blood glucose level from just one blood test. Several blood tests are needed at specific times of day taking into accounct the phase of digestion your bun is in   . If your vet is NOT a rabbit specialist I would consider requesting a referal to one who is as you need to be certain of the condition you are trying to manage!! A good vet will be more than happy to refer a client to a more specialist clinician. Hiya

My vet thought that my bun was last week too, she thought it may be this due to a high blood glucose level, but after her talking to a specialist they decided that it was highly unlikely and most prob due to pain of some sort. My bun is going in tomorrow for X-Rays to see if they can find out what is wrong. When she did a ***** test on Fri her blood glucose had gone down so I'm thinking stress or pain with my bun. I got some wonderful help from Jane (JCO), she knows her stuff!! :)
