  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rupert was castrated last week, when he had his teeth done. He was a little bit slow to recover, I think that was because he has been having quite a few anaesthetics for his teeth to be done.He has bounced back now though and is back to his normal self. I had hoped it might have stopped him spraying me, but he seems to be worse than ever at the moment

Fred Junior had his incisors removed on Tuesday. He was eating shredded vegetables that evening and back to eating his normal pelleted food by the next morning  . He definetley likes his food. The vet said he was a little bloater. It doesn't seem to have knocked him back at all. He is still on Metacam and I think I will keep giving it to him for the next week.

Humphrey is going in to be castrated on Monday. Don't know how he will cope though because he never has to go to the vets, unlike the other two.

It takes about 6 weeks for hormones to calm down so any behavior improvements wont usually be seen until after this time
