Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
hi guys
Iv just been to see my rabbits and my 3 month old bun has a small slit on her ear which is bleeding which I guess is from the other bun, Iv bathed it in a weak saline solution, is there anything else i need to do, its not bleeding uncontrollably but it is bleeding a little...???

Do you think the other bun bit her out of aggression??]

Hiya Mollyhop, sorry that your bunny has been bitten on the ear..you may have to separate the bunnies as once they draw blood it is often hard to be able to keep them together.
How are they getting on now? or are they apart? The trouble with a bunny biting an ear, is that the ear bleeds quite a lot as the veins are so near the surface.
When we had a bunny with a serious ear tear, I elevated the damaged part of the ear, so that the blood flow has to travel up , and hopefully this will help stem the bleed.
Apply firm pressure with a clean hankie to the ear, and hold in place for about ten minutes or longer if necessary.
Wrap micropore gently around the ear several times (but dont cut off the blood supply to the ear), this gives the ear a chance to heal and avoid bleeding if knocked.
I keep Micropore in the bunny first aid box, but if you dont have any in your home you could perhaps buy some tomorrow and protect the ear for the next 72 hours.
If bleeding continues after half an hour, or is profuse, apply pressure to the wound, and follow as above, but remove the bunny to the vets urgently so they can sort it out.
Saline solution should stop an infection developing, but you are concerned then it is always best to ask your vet to check an injury out.

Sounds like you have everything under control though, well done :)

Hope the bunny is not too shocked?

best wishes
Adele
