Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My rabbit is very old, she has been off her dried food recently, I have noticed her dropping have gone very pale in colour. She is still drinking. Has any one had anything similar?

How old is she? Is she still eating plenty of hay - which is the most important part of any rabbit's diet. How is she behaving?

She is about 7, a dwarf lop eared. She is eating some hay but that's about all. She doesn't appear to be in pain, is still hopping around, not as much as she used to. Lets me stroke her and handle her - nothing has changed in her behaviour (thank you for answering)

I assume she is vaccinated and spayed? These days 7 isn't considered old as rabbits' diets, care, housing etc are so much better.

Yes, vaccinated in August, spayed when she was 9 months old. As usual for this time of year, I have just moved her hutch from an outside run into the greenhouse, she comes in the house of a evening

Unfortunately rabbits won't show they are in any pain. If they change their eating habits it is worthwhile asking a rabbit savvy vet to check their teeth
I hope all goes well with Dotty

Hi Janie and welcome to RU

7 is nowhere near 'very old' for a rabbit!

If you're worried about her eating etc you really need to get her checked over, weighed and especially her teeth. A vet can only see around 50% of the back teeth with an otoscope (unless they are into doing 'conscious dentals'). So a sedation would be required to really examine whether they were an issue.

There's lots of things you can do.

In addition to the booster, has she had the VHD2 vaccination? Sorry for all the questions - just trying to build picture.
