  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sore hocks

I have a new foster bun arriving in a few days who has some special needs including sore hocks (I haven't met the bun or seen the vet report yet).
What bedding/flooring do those of you with rabbits with sore hocks use please?
I was thinking Eva rubber mats and vet bed or a thick layer of hay?
Any hints and tips for on going management would also be much appreciated too :)

I use vetbed/vetfleece for all my rabbits :D
It was recommended to me on here as Maple is a rex - a breed prone to sore hocks - and the fur on her hocks was starting to wear through and started to get a little red. Thankfully we caught it in time before it needed treatment and the fur grew back. The vetbed stopped her having any trouble in the future. I think a lot of people use vetbed for rabbits with sore hocks. I'm a huge fan of it even for rabbits that don't :p
You can also get it on ebay and it's sent first class so it will arrive very quickly: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/**vetfleece**/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
