  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Behavior After Neutering?

Aesop had his operation yesterday and all went smoothly. The wound seems clean and tidy, no oozing or bleeding. He still seems quite slow and a little confused 24hrs on, is that to be expected?
His poops are also very tiny, about half the size of his normal ones although he is eating and drinking, is this just from the stress or should I be concerned?
Thanks in advance!

I am glad that Aesop's neuter went well and that his wound is looking good. I think that anaesthetic can have an effect on the size of a rabbit's poops afterwards and I would not be concerned by that if he is eating and drinking well. As you say it could also be that the stress has also had an impact. It's quite difficult to give advice regarding the slowness and confusion without being able to witness it. I think if it were me, I would wait until tomorrow morning and then if you still feel he is not quite right, I would give your vets a call.
Sending lots of vibes for Aesop's recovery.

Thanks very much. He seems to have perked up quite a bit now, I think it was just him being a bit confused with such a change to his body and me overreacting :)

Well yes, I can imagine it must be confusing to just suddenly wake up and bits of your body are just...well... not there anymore
