  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Re. Rosie, 13 years / Balance / Ear Infection

Wanted to let you know that agreeing with you on how inexpensive my recent vet consultation charge was at £10.20, I rang to query what the normal cost is.

Apparently, a small animal consultation is £18 (forgot the pence) so think the vet was being kind at charging me £10.20. - possibly as he felt unable to do anything for Rosie at the time. So although I wasn't impressed with what he suggested for Rosie, he was being very generous in the amount he charged for his consultation.

£18 (ish), is still VERY reasonable compared to the amount you are charged!

As an aside Rosie continues to do extremely well

I'm so glad Rosie is doing well

Yes, your vet's fees are very low, but I guess that's because I live in London! I have found that rabbit specialists fees are the same as London vet's prices, but it's still a lot! I wonder if London vets reduced their prices, more people would make more visits?

You will have to move!

Yes move - North bound. London rates will put their costs up though? I never found my specialist to be any more expensive than the rubbish local vets I went to. The bill might be a little higher but only cos more thorough in the diagnostics side. You fill in a little menu card for your rabbit, what fruit, veg, pellets etc & whether they have them whole, shredded etc so no need to take wilting bunny packed lunches

When I last took one of my rabbits for a dental, I was told to fetch him early (4pm), as they would have nothing to feed him on!
