Rabbit isn't eating :(

My rabbit decreased what he was eating about 3 weeks ago. I was worried but I thought it may change after a few days but things got worse. I took him to the vets where they told me his guts weren't working as they should so gave him medication and told me to syringe feed him. I did this for a few days but there was no improvement. I went back to the vet where they gave me painkillers for him but a week later there was still no change. The third time I returned they did a glucose test and that seemed to be ok. At this stage I decided to try an alternative vet. They have since put him to sleep to check his teeth, did an x-ray on his skull and body and have confirmed all is in order, other than hes not eating so his tummy isn't full etc. They have told me I perhaps need to go to a specialist. He barely touches his pellets and eats a small bit of kale a day as well as the food I am syringing him. Does anyone have any advise? or know of a specialist in the midlands area they recommend?

Thank you!

I can't offer any advice - except to say that yes I think you do need to consult a rabbit specialist. Where abouts in the Midlands are you?

I'd try to get your Bunny to her tomorrow if at all possible xx

I agree you could do with going to a specialist. Where abouts in the Midlands are you?

Oooh - we cross-posted. Sorry! I would have suggested going to Animates, Thurlby to see Sarah, but Thurlby's quite a long way away from Northampton - 1hr20 ish.

Definitely need to find yourself a good bunny vet - have you been giving pain killers and gut stimulants by mouth to try and get things moving and your bunny eating? Sometimes it takes a good few days of these things as well as syringe feeding before they start wanting to eat on their own.

I'm not sure whereabouts in the midlands you are but there's a vets in Leicestershire near sileby called chine house that is really good for rabbits - they have some good exotics specialists

Really hope you find out what's wrong with him xx

Yes he has been on pain killers and gut stimulants by mouth for about 2 weeks now, and everytime I visit the vet he is injecting the painkiller. Great thanks for your advise!

I think chine house is about an hour from Northampton - we've had lectures from Craig hunt who works there about bunnies and he does our rabbit practicals so I think he's pretty good! Xx

Sounds very promising!

Even if you have to travel for an hour, it's worth it for a one off consultation with a specialist. At least you'll have a way forward. As things are now, you seem in stale mate.

Good luck and welcome to the Forum  xx

Craig at Chine House is fantastic with bunnies so I'll second that recommendation, not sure of any rabbit specialists nearer to you - perhaps try the RWAF list? (Can't do links on my ipad  )
