Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Wet/dribbling rabbit

Hello, please can anyone help. My rabbit was drooling a lot a few weeks ago and Losing weight, even though he was still eating well, he had had his back teeth shortened as the vet said they were too long, he instantly stopped drooling and been fine for a couple of weeks.
Then yesterday he was wet all on his belly and leg, but not around his mouth where he was previously drooling, it wasn't urine, or anything in or out of his cage, maybe saliva? He's lost more weight but is still eating well and active and fine in himself. Can anyone shed any light on why he may still be losing weight and all the wetness on his under belly?
Thank you very much

Hello

I am sorry that your Rabbit is still having problems. You do need to take him back to the Vet. How do you know that the wetness is not urine ? It could be saliva, but this may mean he has a problem causing him to over groom a certain area. Pain of some sort from somewhere may be involved. It really isn't possible to diagnose what may be wrong without examining him. The fact that he continues to loose weight is a cause for concern so I would not delay in taking him back to the Vet for re-assessment. Good luck.
