The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Rabbit is not moving much

New Kit
Hello :)

So my rabbit has not moved all day she has been sat with her paws out in front of her and legs underneath her.
After work I picked her up and she wasn't moving so I took her to the vet he had a look at her spin and she was fine, looked and listend to her gut and that was fine she has been going to the toilet fine (nomal) he took her temperature and all that was normal. He then put her on the floor and she sort of was dragging her paws forward then pulling her legs under and just going in circle. He held her legs up and made her go forward and she was fine on her front paws. Then her made her move her legs under her and that was fine to. So she can move front and back but basically chooses not to. He has given her an injection and told me to come back in the morning. But i just want to know if anybody knows what is going on.
She does not seem in pain l, she also cleaned her face with her front paws in the vets. she is eating not much but she is. She is 2 years old and is a lop she does share a hutch with her sister outside but they dont fight so i dont really know what has happened, I don't think the vet did either.

Hi, so sorry to hear your bunny isn't herself :(

What did your vet inject her with? Is she tilting her head to the side or moving in circles now? How does she look?

I would be worried if she wasn't moving around much. Hopefully someone like Jacks Jane will come along who is far more knowledgeable than me, but in the meantime please keep her topped up with lots of food, hay and water. She could deteriorate, which is why I'd bribe her with any extra food to ensure she has food in her system.

I think he said it was just some pain relief ( metacam it says in the invoice ). he said he can see she is in discomfort. And no she Isent tilting her hair she is just keeping in forward and moving her eyes back more to see. And not moving just cuddled up to her sister. It's really hard I can see she is in pain or not herself but I can't do anything to help :( as nobody seems to know what is wrong with her.
I have put more food in her bowl and filled the water so I hope that will make her eat more and drink.

Thank you for getting back to me.

Hello, you need to make sure she is eating and drinking, if she is not you need to get her to a vet to be admitted. I really hope all goes well with her. Try tempting her with her favorite treats good luck xx

I did just pop out to check on her and she was eating some hay. So hopfully she will keep eating. Finger crossed...

I am reluctant to guess as my knowledge is limited, but I wonder if it's something neurological? The fact that her legs don't seem coordinated and she's looking back? I really hope I'm wrong.

If you can, give her some treats (fresh veg or dry stuff) and hand feed her if needs be. Great to hear she's eating hay though! Do you feel confident your vet knew what they were doing? People often talk about their vets being "rabbit savvy" as you'd be amazed how most vets don't feel that confident treating buns. If you're not confident, try googling "exotic vets" in your area and think about taking her somewhere new that specialises in exotic pets.

Is she stable when she moves around? She's not stumbling etc?

No he was great with checking everything just seems liked he didn't know what to say so said come back tomorrow morning. And no she does not stumble.
Yes think I will have a look. It's really annoying because it my partners rabbits and he is in iraq at the moment so I feel like she need to get better to keep me sain.
Also she does look comfy awww this is so hard because I don't have a clue anyway so to me the vet was ok he spoke stuff I didn't understand so I guessed he was good.

And is neurological not good :(

I'm glad she's not stumbling etc, as I would be worried that she could hurt herself.

If she's eating, pooping and drinking water, then those are all really good signs. She's been given pain relief, which is important, so at least she will be comfortable. For now leave them to snuggle and sleep and hopefully in the morning she'll feel better—sometimes they can have 'moments' where they sulk but are fine after a few hours.

Check back here early tomorrow and hopefully one of the bunny health gurus will come along and offer some advice, some of the users on here have really amazing knowledge. Please do keep the thread updated with how she gets on at the vets tomorrow morning  I have my fingers crossed that she will be fine in the morning x

That exact thing happened to us with our house-bun, Rolo.

A few years ago he just wouldnt move. He sat just how you describe your bunny sitting. So we took him to the vet and he was checked over and given metacam.

He was eating normally and pooping normally. After a few days, he started to gingerly walk about. Took him back to vets and we think that he had caught his foot or tail, nothing was broken, but maybe sprained it or given it a nasty pull.

After about a week, he was back to normal. Never happened since. But...........when he is sat with his back towards me I do notice his tail is slightly off centre. So maybe it was just as the vet said.

I hope your bun is better soon.

Hopfully she will be back to running around with her sister soon 💖💖💖💖

Make sure she can drink her water, as they can dehydrate fast if they are unable and unwilling to drink. If not, syringe water into her mouth a little at a time on regular intervals until she can get fluids given at the vets, or until she drinks sufficiently on her own. The medacam is a pain medication and also an anti-inflamatory. It will wear off, so she may need to get some more from the vet as either a shot or liquid which you can administer yourself. Most bunnies like the taste of the liquid, so it is not hard to get them to take it orally.

Best of luck.

Not really no :( but she is eating and drinking so that's a really good thing. And she is moving around a little. :) taking her to the vets after work if she is any worse xxc

Slightly good news this morning. She is trying to move around more. As in she was upstairs when I went to see her and I then took food bowl to fill up and she was down stairs. So she got down the stairs. I just hope she can get up them now as there is food there. If I go out a little later and she is still downstairs I will put some food downstairs for her.

But slightly good news :) :)

Xx
