  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Emergency

Izzybun

Young Bun
Bubba has suddenly started spinning and tilting and shaking, should I take him to the emergency vets? Or wait for tomorrow?

:( Poor Bubba, you made the right decision to take him to the vets today. Sending lots of vibes for him, please let us know later how you got on at the vet. xx

Thank you, he's had a steroid injection and is now on a course of panacur because the vet said it's more likely to be a bug called econiculi the trauma which was my initial thought as he fell out his tunnel, and I'll give the rest rest of the buns a course of the pancur to. Hopefully his condition will stabilise over the next couple of days x

It was really good you saw the vet so soon.

Beginning a course of Panacur can be an absolute lifesaver if started right away.

Well done you, and the very best of luck from now on

This sounds very similar to what happened to my Truffle a couple of years ago. She was wobbly for a little while, but the steroid injection made a massive difference and she was back almost to normal within a few weeks. Adding vibes for your little one.

Sorry to hear there is no improvement. I don't have experience of EC, but believe it can take a while for there to be an improvement. Sometimes the poor bun seems to get worse before they get better.

Is your little one on Metacam?

The vet didn't seem to mention metacam but I've seen it mentioned a lot so I'll ask today as I'm taking him back again[emoji29] he's on a course of panacur and has had a steroid injection

After going to the vets they told me he was the worst they'd seen and it was unlikely that anything could make him better and so the kindest thing to do was to put him to sleep. It took the amount a 20kilo dog would have to put him to sleep, my little super bunny rip bubs x
