Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

What age to get things done

New Kit
Hi guys,

Just looking for a bit of advice. I am a new bunny owner and am just wondering at what age should I get my rabbit Macgyver neutered?
Also I know that here in the uk rabbits need 2 vaccinations, what age should they get their first ones?

Thanks in advance for any responses

Vaccination is just once a year now :) The combi vaccine can be given from 5 weeks.

Males can be castrated as soon as their testicles drop, I think mine was about 6 months old when he was castrated.

If you do the vaccine first (which I would recommend) then it should be left at least 2 weeks before a castration :)

Welcome to RU :)

Macgyver can be neutered as soon as his balls drop, or whenever the vet feels is appropriate (some wait until a specific age, some wait until a specific weight). I've had some done as young as 12 weeks, but others have been older.

Vaccination wise, he needs one vaccination on an annual basis. This covers both Myxomatosis and VHD. He can have that from the age of five weeks. http://www.msd-animal-health.co.uk/Products_Public/nobivac-myxo-rhd/090_product_datasheet.aspx

It is sensible to leave a gap between having both those done, as they are both an assault on the immune system. Often, the way it's typically done with a baby bunny is to get him vaccinated first, and then neutered, given that vaccination can be given at an earlier age.

Hope that helps :)
