  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Maia

I posted on here a few days ago about one of the rabbits, Maia, being quiet but as I only got them last week I just assumed it was her adjusting to a new place. I did email the rescue to ask if she is quiet by nature but I haven't yet had a reply. This morning though, she had to be rushed to the emergency vet. She has bloat. The vet gave her fluids, painkillers and gave me a special food to syringe feed her with. Within two hours, she was nibbling bits of hay! So I am praying it is a good sign.... I am so worried about her, she has been through so much ready... :(

Thanks guys, she has eaten a wee bit more so pleased with that. Cautiously though...

I cleaned her back end this morning because of the diarrhoea, but she is a bit messy again. Not as bad but it's still there, obviously. When should I clean it? I would like to clean it straight away but is it worth putting her through the stress? Or should I leave it for a while, even just a few hours?
