Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Can Female Rabbits store sperm over winter??

craglet

New Kit
Hi Everyone,
I'm in a quandary and completely baffled.
I have been keeping rabbits for around 6 years now and have never, NEVER experienced this. My females mate died last october, (the vets couldn't ascertain what was wrong), and she is now my only rabbit, however yesterday she had 4 babies. Please bare in mind she has been on her own for 7 months now.
I need advice. They are healthy little things but how can this happen????

many thanks

Where is her accommodation?

Do you live near anywhere with a wild rabbit population?

Rabbits can mate in a matter of seconds and if she has not been spayed, then mating through the mesh of a run can and has been known to occur.

This is what I don't understand. We have no wild rabbits in the area. As soon as I get home I'll upload a picture of her housing set up

I dont know how to insert image from URL?? but she has a 5ft wide double hutch, with mesh to the bottom floor and mesh to the top right hand side it call a chartwell double ikf anyone wants to look?
I am so confused by this, weve re named her mary

Sorry can't offer any help! That is SO strange!
I think rabbits can 'store' sperm to some extent... but I couldn't see it being more than a few days!
