Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Metaclopramide - expiry?

I have some metaclopramide which my vet has says its ok to give to Ashley "on tap" if she needs it. It has been decanted from the original bottle so it doesn't have an expiry date, but has been in a sealed bottle since it was prescribed in October 2013.

Does anyone have any idea if it would still be safe to use? thanks.

The shelf-life of Emeprid (metaclopramide) is 6 months after the bottle is first opened, if kept out of the light. So yeah, I'd get some new stuff.

Thanks for replies, I had loads left so it was a shame to waste but we got some more on Monday.

On the bottle of Metacam I have it says shelf life is 6 months after opening as well :)

I made mistake of giving rupert some last month which I was given in October, because I'd read it lasts 6 months.... it made him really poorly, ill never forgive myself. He's ok now, but was cleArly in a lot of pain from it.... I imagine a burning type pain. The vet the next morning gave me a new bottle.

Just replying so I can read the thing about cat metacam tonight when ive more time otherwise I might not find the thread
