  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice when I went out to feed amber she didn't seem herself usually she dives into her nuggets like there the best thing in the world but today she's totally not interested in them, doesn't want to move she just laying around we put her out and she hopped around for maybe a minute then just lay down she's now been lay down in the same place for the past 30 mins not really paying much attention to anything, we've offered her grass and again shes just not interested. We are going to go to the vets for when they open at 4.30 to see if they can fit us in, but was wondering if any ideas what it could be / what we could do in the mean time

Thanks louise

Carry on offering anything and everything she'd normally eat although it sounds like you've done that - DO NOT FORCE FEED OR SYRINGE FEED.

It will likely be a stomach issue, either Bloat, Obstruction or Stasis for whatever reason.

Will need pain relief, possibly gut stimulants (if not blockage!) along with fluids possibly.

This.

You are doing the right think in going to the Vet immediately.

Good luck.

Making sure she is warm is the most important thing until the Vet sees her. Ill Rabbits can quickly become hypothermic which in turn makes their condition much more serious. Good luck at the Vets xx

Thanks everyone, vet thinks it could be bloat, she has had an injection to help her guts movement (I think) some liquid feed and a pro biotic for her water and to go back tomorrow mornings if still not eating, but since we got in we cut her some more grass and gave her apple and her nuggets and she's had some of each and is now sat munching on the bucket of grass she has
