  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Urgent - Gassy with little Diarhoea

Friend's rabbit was given carrot tops 3 days ago. She has a rumbly tummy with a little diarrhoea, hasn't eaten much.. My friend has to go into work, can we give her Fibreplex until she can get her to the Vet?

The little bunny collapsed today so June wanted her pts. I took them but even though Liz was 11 you still think was there anything we should have done but didn't. She is going to be buried next to her sister in their garden. So sad.

Can she drop him off at the Vet before she goes to work ?

Sounds as though he needs some pain relief. Fibreplex wont do any harm, but it wont help with pain and if he has true diarrhoea he will need fluid therapy too.

Hello again tonibun!

No real advice as I'm not experienced with this - just saying hi :wave:

Friend's rabbit (who is 11) is now on her way to the Vets. It's 15 miles away and I couldn't take them as really booked up today. She had to find cover for her shift!

Update

Bunny is back home with Baytril, Emeprid, Zantac, Fibreplex and Recovery. The next 24 - 48 hours are going to be crucial. The Vet did not think it was the Carrot Tops, rather some bacteria.

Hello One of the Family, so sorry about your Tatty.
