Bisolvon/Echinacea advice please.

I have read on here that a lot of you snuffle bunny mummy's use Bisolvon and Echinacea to help manage your buns snuffles.

I'd like to try Mimi on it to see whether it helps a bit so have a few questions.

Am I right in thinking that Bisolvon is a human drug, or is there an animal version as well?

Does anyone know the correct dosage and how many times a day I would give for a 1.6Kg bun?

What form do you give Echinacea in and again in what amounts?

Thanks so much

Doughnut was on echinacea from the specialist to build up her immune system. He gave me the liquid form and I used to just put it on her little bit of weetabix with her other meds.

It was echinecea and levimasole. I had to give her 1ml a day, she is 1kg so it seemed quite a lot but the specialist seemed to think it was good stuff and he's great with bunnies. Just to build her up so can't say if it helps snuffles but a lot of people on here use it and I know in humans people recommend it.

For some reason I have it in my head that Bisolvon is a farm animal med?

Anyway you can only get it on prescription from the vets, Big has it, she has a tiny pinch sprinkled on a small amount of porridge oats in warm water which she loves once a day. I also give her a dose of metacam every other day.

I believe you're right.

Some form of decongenstant really makes a difference. Grim has one that I put in the nebuliser.

Thanks guys

Is Piriton a decongestant aswell? I've also read on here of people using that on snuffle buns I think?

Piriton is an antihistamine, so if there is some element of allergy it can help because it will reduce any snot production associated with allergy. Most of the time though it's just plain old snuffles.

I used to get bisolvon from the vets and it was just a little pinch daily. You should try and get echinacea purpurea rather than angustifolia as the purpurea is the one with the higher amount of active ingredient in it (that's why it's more expensive generally!). I just used to get a tincture from the health food shop. It's quite aniseedy so if your buns like that flavour it will be easy to give. I used to mix the bisolvon in a drop of echinacea and a teaspoon of water and would offer the syringe to Santa and she would just drink it from the syringe. Very easy, although I guess some bunnies might not be as cooperative

Thanks Santa :)

I'll definitely get some Echinacea. Mimi can be a bit fussy with food but I'll try sneaking some into a bit of porridge which she loves.

I'll have a word with my vets about the Bisolvon but I doubt he'll agree as he's not hugely experimental with treatments.

Tempted to try the Piriton. I'm pretty sure it's snuffles she has, but it does tend to get worse if I have the window open for a bit and it did rear its ugly head at the start of summer, so it does make me wander whether it coud be some kind of allergy (maybe pollen?)
