Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fly strike prevention

Star-34

New Kit
Hi all. This isn't my first post I'm an old member but couldn't reset my account :(

Anyways.....my 12 yr dwarf lion head was rushed to emergency vets yesterday and had fly strike. Luckily we caught it early and he's ok ish, sore and shaven but ok :).

I was wondering if anyone knew of any natural fly repellents I can use on him instead of the shop bought rear guard and also if anyone has any tips for stopping it happening again? He's so so old but Is still going strong and isn't ready to give up yet but just isn't cleaning himself like he should so we've had to up his brushing more. We're getting some lavender plants for around his hutch/run combo and some other herbs and stuff for the top. What about fly papers? Would they be any good attached to the top of the hutch out of reach.....we have young children, dogs and cats. Anything I can Feed him to help?

Beverley xx
